Independent medicine has long been supported by specialty-specific organizations or sections of large, multispecialty groups. What has been missing is a dedicated, multispecialty voice for independent medicine. OneOncology is proud to be a founding member of the American Independent Medical Physicians Association (AIMPA), created to provide this voice.
AIMPA’s growth and early impact have been remarkable. Within its first year, the organization grew to over 10,000 physicians across 44 states, representing care for 24 million patients. This success is largely due to Howard Rubin, AIMPA’s lead attorney and organizer, whose efforts have been instrumental in uniting the physician network.
Since AIMPA’s formation, significant state and national debates have emerged about the role of private equity (PE) in healthcare. AIMPA has worked to highlight the benefits that private capital can provide in improving healthcare and lowering costs, through dedicated studies, and by engaging in legislative advocacy, particularly in states like New York, California, and Connecticut. Partnering with state-level independent physician practice associations, AIMPA successfully opposed numerous restrictive bills in 2024.
AIMPA is only just beginning, and newly created state independent medical associations are being led by OneOncology members. This includes Dr. Justin Favaro, President of the North Carolina Independent Physician Practice Association and Dr. David Eagle, President of the New York Independent Physician Practice Association. We welcome involvement by any interested OneOncology members and are here to help.
